SBFC leapt to the top of the table with road wins in Week 6 over Portland Thorns FC and Seattle Reign FC when Taylor Lytle came on to score as a second-half substitute in both games.
Lytle scored the game-winning goal against the Thorns less than two minutes after coming on in the 79th minute to give her team a 1-0 victory and send them to the top of the table. She scored again three days later after coming on in the 70th minute when she tallied the final goal in Sky Blue FC’s 3-0 win against the Seattle Reign.
Sky Blue FC’s back line of Caitlin Foord, Coco Goodson, Kendall Johnson and Christie Rampone haven’t allowed a goal in their last 270 minutes – a performance that helped earn Rampone NWSL Player of the Week honors for Week 6.
SBFC have outscored their opponents 6-0 over the last three games.
FC Kansas City come into the match with wins in three of their last four games. The Blues trail Sky Blue FC by six points but have two games in-hand on the league leaders.
Lauren Cheney had a goal and assisted on a Renae Cuellar goal in the FCKC’s 2-0 win over the Boston Breakers in Week 6. The assist was Cheney’s third of the season and tied her with Boston Breakers forward Lianne Sanderson for the league lead.
Cuellar has scored a goal in four of five games to start the season and is tied with four other players as the league’s highest scorer.
FC Kansas City goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart enters the match on the heels of her third shutout of the season – a four-save effort against the Breakers. The U.S. international has the third-best GAA (0.6) in the league.
