Sam Kerr topped the scoring charts once more to earn her third consecutive NWSL Golden Boot, finishing as the league’s top scorer in the regular season with 18 goals and five assists in 21 games. The 18 tallies for the Chicago Red Stars forward set the record for most goals by a player in a single season. Kerr already held the record, setting the mark when she scored 17 goals for Sky Blue FC in 2017.Kerr is the first player in league history to finish three straight seasons as the league’s Golden Boot recipient. The Australian international scored her record-tying and then record-breaking goals in a 3-1 win over the Washington Spirit on September 22 in the Red Stars’ penultimate contest of the regular season.
