After contributing on every goal in Boston’s 3-0 win over Seattle, Breakers forward Adriana Leon has been named Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 3 of the 2017 NWSL season.Leon tallied a goal and two assists in Boston’s win over Seattle Reign FC on Saturday. She scored the game’s opening goal and then assisted on Rose Lavelle’s first NWSL goal and Natasha Dowie’s second strike of the year. Leon nearly scored twice more, but was denied by a strong Haley Kopmeyer save and the crossbar in the second half. The win was the Breakers’ first-ever win over the Reign and moved Boston into second place in the NWSL at 2-1-0 ahead of their clash with the first-place North Carolina Courage on Sunday at Jordan Field. Leon is the ninth Breakers player to ever win the NWSL Player of the Week and the first Canada international to win since former Red Stars goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc in 2015. The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
