The second weekend of the 2025 NWSL season had everything: viral bangers, history-making vets, rookies who refuse to chill, and goals that broke the internet. From long-range screamers to new additions to the record books, here are five storylines that had us yelling at our screens in Week 2.

Goals That Shook the League

Two goals stole the spotlight—and the internet—last weekend. Seattle Reign FC defender (yes, defender) Jordyn Bugg stunned fans with a jaw-dropping strike from long range against the North Carolina Courage, while Bay FC rookie Karlie Lema went on a coast-to-coast solo run before firing one in from just outside the box in Bay FC’s home opener. Both goals landed on SportsCenter and quickly made waves across social media, proving once again that NWSL is home to some of the most electric players in the game.

Temwa Chawinga Stays On Fire

There’s scoring, and then there’s Temwa-ing. The reigning MVP and Golden Boot winner is on a heater once again, netting a stoppage-time dagger against Washington to make it seven straight games with a goal. She’s now just one away from tying her own NWSL record of eight straight, set during her jaw-dropping 2024 season. With all of the Current’s pieces clicking, Temwa’s goal scoring is looking less like if and more like when.

Maggie Graham And Gia Corley Can’t Stop Scoring

It’s rare for a player to score in their first two NWSL appearances—so for two players to do it in the same week is unheard of. Rookie Maggie Graham (Houston Dash) and German international Gia Corley (San Diego Wave) found the net again in Week 2, joining an elite group as just the fifth and sixth players in league history to score in each of their first two games. Both are proving they’re more than just breakout names—they’re instant difference-makers. The duo look to join Jaedyn Shaw and Renae Cuellar this weekend as the only players to score in their first three matches.

Jess Fishlock Hits 200 In Style

A living legend added another milestone to her resume. Seattle Reign FC midfielder Jess Fishlock made her 200th career regular season appearance over the weekend, becoming just the fourth player in league history to hit that mark. And she didn’t just show up—she scored (the second in league history to do so after Christine Sinclair was the first last November), reminding everyone why she remains one of the most influential midfielders in the league, more than a decade into her NWSL journey.

Washington Spirit Packs The House

On Saturday against the KC Current, Washington Spirit sold out Audi Field for the third straight home match, continuing their surge in fan support under Michele Kang’s vision. It’s also their highest attended home opener. With a stacked roster, big-name international signings, and a fast-paced playing style, the Spirit are building serious momentum—not just on the field, but in the stands too. The District is showing out for women’s soccer.

Let the momentum roll. With Week 2 in the books, the 2025 NWSL season is heating up fast—and there’s no sign of it slowing down!
