Tacoma, Washington - OL Reign defender Jimena López has been called up to the Mexico Women’s National Team to play in the U.S. WNT Send-Off Series.
The Send-Off Series includes matches against the U.S. WNT on Thursday, July 1 at 4:00 p.m. PT and again on Monday, July 5 at 2:00 p.m. PT at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut. The July 1 match will be broadcast on FS1, while the July 5 match will feature on ESPN. Mexico will use the matches against the U.S. in its preparation for qualification for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In these matches, López will battle against her OL Reign teammates Rose Lavelle and Megan Rapinoe on the United States squad. OL Reign announced the signing of López to a three-year contract on July 15, 2021 after reaching agreement with SD Eibar on a permanent transfer. She will join OL Reign in July after the completion of the U.S. WNT Send-Off Series. López made her Mexico Women’s National Team debut on February 27, 2019 in a friendly against Italy. Since her debut, López has scored two goals in 23 appearances, including 21 starts. In Mexico’s last match, a 5-1 loss in a friendly against Japan, López made an appearance, subbing on in the 52nd minute. Most recently, the United States and Mexico met in an Olympic Qualifying match in February 2020, where the United States won 4-0 and Rose Lavelle scored a goal in the fifth minute of the match.
