Kansas City Current Forward Temwa Chawinga Named June Player Of The Month, presented by EA SPORTS

Malawi international helped Kansas City Current to a 17-match undefeated run dating back to October 7, 2023 to begin the season 

NEW YORK (July 11, 2024) - The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that Kansas City Current forward Temwa Chawinga has been named the Player of the Month, presented by EA SPORTS, for the month of June by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent. 

Chawinga exploded onto the stage this month, notching six goals and two assists in four games played during June. Scoring in every match played in June, the Malawi international also recorded two braces.

The league leader for shots on target recorded 11 goals by the end of June to take the top spot on the NWSL Golden Boot standings due to assists. Appearing in 359 minutes throughout the month, Chawinga leads the league with 13 shots on target, adding seven tackles won and 12 successful dribbles past opponents in June.

Chawinga’s electric performance helped the Current to a record-breaking undefeated streak of 17 games dating back to October 7, 2023.

The NWSL Player of the Month, presented by EA SPORTS, is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.
