Nominee: Rocky Rodríguez

Community Partner: Las Fotos Project

Appreciation Night Match: September 23

Rocky Rodríguez has been committed to service since she began her journey as a professional football player at age 11. Recognizing that there were no female Costa Rican players for her to look up to, Rocky committed herself to be a role model for future female athletes. She understood that to be a successful player meant that young athletes needed opportunities on the field to develop their skills and off the field to develop their minds. Off the field, Rocky has promoted literacy with elementary school youth, particularly those in under-resourced communities. She has utilized her social media platforms to address real life issues, like mental health, and offer encouragement through her sessions called “The Seed of the Day.” On the field, Rocky has created opportunities through clinics for young girls in Costa Rica. Rocky has utilized her time with Angel City FC to support the Las Fotos project, an organization that provides teenage girls and gender expansive youth from communities of color the opportunity to channel their creativity for the benefit of themselves, their community, and their future careers.
