Seattle Reign FC’s Merritt Mathias has been suspended three games for an incident that occurred in Seattle’s Week 4 draw with Portland Thorns FC, the NWSL Disciplinary Committee announced Thursday. She has also been fined an undisclosed amount for “violent conduct that was determined to be a major game misconduct,” according to an NWSL press release.The incident involved Portland defender Emily Sonnett and took place in the 68th minute on Saturday, May 6. Mathias will miss Seattle’s next three matches: vs. the Washington Spirit (May 13), vs. the Orlando Pride (May 21) and at the Houston Dash (May 27).
