CHICAGO (November 4, 2021) -

The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that NJ/NY Gotham FC forward Margaret Purce has been named the Player of the Month for the month of October by the NWSL Media Association. Enjoying her best month offensively in October, Purce notched three goals, including a brace, to lead Gotham’s scoring effort throughout the month to secure the top scoring spot among Gotham forwards. Notably, Purce tallied the game-winning goal in Gotham FC’s 3-2 win over the Orlando Pride on October 9. Registering 17 shots throughout the month, the Olney, Illinois native continued her scoring effort on October 17, notching her first brace of the season with a pair of goals in Gotham FC’s 3-0 rout of the North Carolina Courage. The two-goal effort earned her Player of the Week honors for Week 21. Thanks to her outstanding play in October, Purce stretched her scoring total to nine goals in 17 matches this season, finishing just one goal behind 2021 Golden Boot winner Ashley Hatch. Earning the No. 5 seed for the 2021 NWSL Playoffs, Purce and NJ/NY Gotham FC begin their postseason run Sunday, November 7 when they travel to Purce’s home state to take on the No. 4 seed Chicago Red Stars at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The contest is slated for a 3 p.m. ET kickoff and will air live on CBS Sports Network. Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman finished second in voting after notching a trio of goals, while Chicago Red Stars defender Sarah Gorden finished third after appearing in every minute of play throughout October. The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
