Chicago (January 22, 2020) – The National Women’s Soccer League today announced a series of trades. The North Carolina Courage have traded veteran forward and U.S. Women’s National Team defender Crystal Dunn to OL Reign in exchange for goalkeeper Casey Murphy and $140,000 in allocation money. In addition, OL Reign has sent Crystal Dunn to Portland Thorns FC for one international slot for the 2021 season, Portland’s 2022 natural first round NWSL Draft pick and $250,000 in allocation money, $50,000 of which is conditioned upon Dunn’s future NWSL playing status.

NC RELEASE RGN RELEASE POR RELEASE Following a college career at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Dunn was selected first overall by the Washington Spirit in the 2014 NWSL College Draft. She played three seasons with the Spirit winning the NWSL Golden Boot and Most Valuable Player award in 2015 after scoring a league-leading 15 goals. She spent the 2017 season with Chelsea FC Women and returned to the NWSL to join North Carolina via trade in 2018. As a member of the Courage, Dunn appeared in 35 regular season games scoring 15 goals and nine assists. She started in four playoff games with North Carolina, scoring two goals in the 2019 NWSL Championship game which earned the Courage back-to-back league titles. In 2020, Dunn scored one goal in five appearances at the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup. As a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, Dunn has appeared in 104 matches, recording 24 goals and 17 assists. She earned her first callup to the senior team in January 2013 and was most recently a member of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup team. In 2012, she won the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan. Murphy began her career at Rutgers University where she recorded 45 clean sheets and was recognized twice as the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, twice an All-Big Ten First Team selection and twice an All-Region First Team honoree. After being drafted in the 2018 NWSL College Draft, Murphy signed a contract with Montpellier of France’s Division 1 Féminine where she made 29 appearances and was named the league’s goalkeeper of the year. Since signing a contract with OL Reign in May 2019, Murphy has appeared and started in 20 regular season and playoff matches, recording six clean sheets. The goalkeeper started in six matches between the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup and the 2020 NWSL Fall Series, earning three clean sheets.
