Providence Park to hold league’s marquee event for third time

- The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that Providence Park, home of the league’s Portland Thorns FC, will host the 2021 NWSL Championship presented by Budweiser on Saturday, November 20 at 12 p.m. ET. The match will air on the CBS Television Network and stream live on Paramount+. It will also stream internationally outside the U.S. on the NWSL’s Twitch channel.

- The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that Providence Park, home of the league’s Portland Thorns FC, will host the 2021 NWSL Championship presented by Budweiser on Saturday, November 20 at 12 p.m. ET. It will also stream internationally outside the U.S. on the NWSL’s Twitch channel. “We’re excited to bring the NWSL Championship back to Providence Park,” said NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird. “Portland is a fantastic soccer city with a passionate fanbase, and we’re confident the stadium will provide a wonderful atmosphere to celebrate the culmination of the 2021 season.” This year’s championship marks the third time the stadium will host the NWSL’s marquee event. Providence Park last hosted the event in 2018 when the Thorns faced the eventual champion North Carolina Courage, setting a then NWSL attendance record of 21,144 spectators. “We are thrilled to host the 2021 NWSL Championship game at Providence Park,” said Mike Golub, Portland Thorns FC President of Business. “This club and community take great pride in highlighting the talent in this league, and we look forward to having another opportunity to showcase our city, our stadium, and the incredible support that has been fostered here for women’s soccer.” Home to the Thorns and the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer, Providence Park seats 25,218. Originally constructed in 1926, the stadium has held a variety of premier sporting events over the decades, including the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2014 MLS All-Star Game and the 2015 and 2018 NWSL Championships. The newly expanded 2021 NWSL playoffs will feature the top six teams at the end of the regular season, with the top two seeds earning a first-round bye to the semifinals. The quarterfinals are set to begin the weekend of November 6-7, while the semifinals will take place the weekend of November 13-14. Championship game tickets will go on sale to the public on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m. (Pacific). Fans will be able to purchase tickets by calling (888) 736-6849 or online at www.thornsfc.com . Thorns FC Annual Members will have access to an exclusive presale beginning Tuesday, Sept. 14, with details to be emailed to annual members next week. Tickets will be held for fans of both participating teams and be made available once the teams are set.
