NWSL Attendance Hits Record-Breaking 2 Million

The NWSL reached a historic milestone in fan engagement this season, surpassing 2 million attendees for the first time in league history. This record was officially set during the Portland Thorns' sold-out match at Providence Park, where fans gathered to honor retiring forward Christine Sinclair—a three-time league champion and one of the few remaining players from the league's inaugural 2013 season.

This season saw 89 matches surpass 10,000 fans—up from 55 last season. Average attendance also climbed past 11,000, breaking last year’s precedent-setting average of over 10,000 fans per game, a first for any women’s soccer league worldwide. Leading the charge was San Diego Wave FC, topping the league for the second consecutive season with an impressive 19,575 fans per game, while Angel City FC and Portland also drew over 18,000 on average.

The league’s overall attendance boost was supported by the addition of two expansion teams, Bay FC and Utah Royals, as well as one extra home game per team. Bay FC drew an average of 13,617 fans per game, while Utah Royals saw an average attendance of 10,455. In June, the Chicago Red Stars drew an NWSL single-game record of 35,038 fans at Wrigley Field in a historic faceoff against Bay FC.

The NWSL Playoffs kick off on November 8, culminating in the NWSL Championship on November 23 at Kansas City's newly opened CPKC Stadium—the world's first stadium designed specifically for a professional women's sports team where Kansas City Current sold out every home game this season.
