CHICAGO (June 3, 2021) - The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan has been named the Player of the Month for the month of May by the NWSL Media Association.

The leading scorer this month, Morgan tallied a goal in each of Orlando’s four games to help her team to a 3-0-1 record and a first-place position in the league standings. Morgan opened her 2021 scoring campaign on May 16, tallying the Pride’s first goal of the regular season in the team’s 1-1 draw against the Washington Spirit. She notched the game-winner in Orlando’s 2-1 win over North Carolina the following week, converting in the 79th minute to lead the Pride to victory on the road. Morgan, who competed in every minute of Orlando’s play during the month, continued her scoring streak at home with the opening goal in a 2-1 win over Portland before tallying the lone goal in the Pride’s 1-0 result against Kansas City. The 5-6 attacker looks to stretch her scoring tear to five games when the Pride face off against Washington on the road on June 6. The game is set for a 2 p.m. ET start and will air live on Paramount+. With a goal and two assists, Debinha finished second in the voting for Player of the Month while Sydney Leroux was third with a pair of goals. The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
