Christy Holly is stepping down as coach of Sky Blue FC effective immediately, the team announced Wednesday. Holly was in his second season as head coach of Sky Blue, after starting as an assistant coach. Sky Blue is currently in sixth place in the NWSL with 23 points, three points out of the fourth and final playoff spot. The team said it has come to a mutual agreement with Holly, and that he leaves on good terms. Sky Blue FC next hosts Seattle Reign FC on Saturday. The team has not yet announced who will coach the next game. “First and foremost, we want to thank Christy Holly for everything he has done for Sky Blue FC,” Tony Novo, Sky Blue FC president and general manager, said in a team press release. “From the first day he came to our club as an assistant coach, Christy has always been committed to Sky Blue FC, and we wish him nothing but the greatest of successes in whatever he chooses to do going forward. That said, we know that Sky Blue FC remains in great hands with Jill Loyden, Dave Hodgson and Paul Greig as we approach the remainder of the regular season with a full ambition of reaching the NWSL Playoffs.” Holly posted a statement on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon. “At this point in my life I have made the decision to step aside from coaching this exceptional group of players,” he said. “While I look forward to what is next for me, I will always look fondly on my time with Sky Blue and the opportunity to work with the players and the entire organization.” Holly’s full statement: [Empty Body]
