Boston Breakers goalkeeper Abby Smith, North Carolina Courage defender Abby Dahlkemper and defender Jaelene Hinkle have been named by head coach Jill Ellis to the U.S. women’s national team roster for the June friendlies in Sweden and Norway, U.S. Soccer announced Thursday. They are joined by 17 other NWSL players on the 21-player roster for the games.NWSL players will compete in their NWSL games the weekend of June 3 before heading to Europe. The United States will face Sweden on Thursday, June 8 at Gamla Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg (1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and UDN) and then Norway on Sunday, June 11 at Komplett Arena in Sandefjord (1 p.m. ET on FOX). Ellis will select 18 players for the game day roster for each match. “I have enjoyed watching the league games, but it will be great to get the players back together,” Ellis said in a U.S. Soccer press release. “This will be a quick trip against two very good teams in final preparations for the Euros, so I’m looking forward to seeing how we respond to these two quality opponents.” It’s the first international roster call-up for Smith, who was previously invited to a WNT training camp in December 2014. She tore her patellar tendon last year and played in just two NWSL games. Smith has played every minute for the Boston Breakers this season, making 22 saves and conceding six goals over the six games. She won Save of the Week in Week 6 for her diving stop vs. Portland Thorns FC forward Nadia Nadim. [Empty Body] Dahlkemper gets her first call-up since earning her first two caps in October 2016 vs. Switzerland. The Courage defender has been a fixture on North Carolina’s tough defensive line and leads the league with 55 corner kicks in seven games. Hinkle returns to the roster for the first time since September and has eight career caps. She earned her first assist of the NWSL season in Week 6. Orlando Pride and Olympique Lyon forward Alex Morgan, who injured her hamstring earlier this month while playing for Lyon and missed last week’s French Cup Final, is on the roster and available. FC Kansas City forward Sydney Leroux makes her return to the roster for the first time since October 2015 after missing all of last year due to pregnancy. She scored in her first NWSL game back for the Blues in Week 1. Orlando goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris, who suffered a quadriceps injury in Week 6, and Portland midfielder Tobin Heath, who has not yet played in the NWSL this season (back strain), will both miss the games. There are no NWSL games the weekend of June 10-11. NWSL games will resume on Saturday, June 17. See the full roster:
