Temwa Chawinga: NWSL’s New Single-Season Scoring Record Holder

Kansas City Current forward Temwa Chawinga made history on Saturday, breaking the NWSL single-season scoring record with her 19th goal in a 1-0 victory over Bay FC.

The 26-year-old Malawi international passed Sam Kerr’s 2019 record of 18 goals with a stunning strike in the 35th minute. None of her goals came from the penalty spot.

Her historic achievement has drawn praise from across the sports world, including Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes and NWSL and Angel City's Christen Press, who both congratulated Chawinga on social media.

Now, all eyes are on Chawinga as she leads the Current into the playoffs, aiming to cap her record-breaking season with some hardware.
