The 2024 NWSL MVP and Golden Boot winner wowed fans across the league with a record-breaking debut season in 2024, setting the league standard by becoming the first player to net 20 goals in a single regular seasonâreplacing Sam Kerrâs record 18 goals previously set in 2019âand scoring against all 13 opposing teams in the same season. She is also the first player to score in eight consecutive regular season matches and was integral to helping the Kansas City Current set a league record for most goals by a club in a single season with 57 goals.
Before joining the Current, Temwa Chawinga dominated the Chinese Women's Super League with Wuhan Jianghan University FC from 2020 to 2023, finishing her final season with 63 goalsâmore than any active player worldwide that year, male or female. Chawinga made an immediate impact in the NWSL, debuting during the Currentâs inaugural match at CPKC Stadium on March 16, 2024, where she delivered the game-winning assist in a wild 5-4 victory over the Portland Thorns. Her first NWSL goal followed swiftly on March 30 in a 4-2 win against Angel City FC, and by April 20, she notched her first brace in a commanding performance against Bay FC.
Chawinga is also the first-ever player to score the now-iconic River Goal at CPKC Stadiumâa moment that cemented her in clubâand leagueâlore.
