In her first season with the NWSL’s Kansas City Current, Temwa Chawinga has claimed the 2024 Golden Boot, capping off a record-breaking debut season with the Kansas City Current.

On October 12th, the 26-year-old forward from Malawi set the single-season scoring record, surpassing Sam Kerr’s 18 goals for the Chicago Red Stars in 2019. She then extended her record to 20 goals. To put her accomplishment into perspective, Chawinga outscored her closest Golden Boot contender, Orlando Pride’s Barbra Banda, by seven goals, a considerable margin in a league as competitive as the NWSL.

Chawinga also became the first player in NWSL history to score against every active team in a single season, adding another historic achievement.

She also played a pivotal role in Kansas City’s Summer Cup Championship triumph, scoring twice to help secure the club’s first-ever trophy.

Now, with Kansas City hosting their first-ever playoff game, Chawinga’s goal-scoring prowess is set to be a game-changer. The Current will face the North Carolina Courage in the NWSL Playoffs presented by Google Pixel on Saturday, November 9th, at 12:00 pm ET.
