NOTES TO KNOW
TUNE IN
Viewers tuning in to the NWSL this season can catch more than 120 matches across CBS, ESPN, ION and Prime Video. The remaining matches will be available for free on NWSL+, the league’s first-ever domestic direct-to-consumer streaming platform.
CPKC IS THE PLACE TO BE
The Kansas City Current host the Chicago Red Stars to kick off week 12 action at CPKC stadium and on Prime Video as the Current look to extend its unbeaten streak and add another win to the club’s 5-0-1 home record this season. The Chicago Red Stars will put up a fight with a stellar away record of 3-1-1 which includes eight goals on the road. All six games played at CPKC Stadium this season were sold out crowds.
BEV’S BACK
Prior to leading the charge of Racing Louisville FC, head coach Bev Yanez spent two years with NJ/NY Gotham FC as an assistant coach from 2021-2022, where she helped the team reach the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup final and the 2021 playoffs.
CASCADIA RIVALRY 2.0
The 40th edition of the Cascadia Rivalry is set to take place this Sunday on CBS with the all-time series tied at 15-15-9. The last match took place during Week 8 and saw Portland Thorns FC defeat Pacific northwest rival Seattle Reign FC, 4-0, behind goals from midfielders Olivia Moultrie and Hina Sugita and forwards Sophia Smith and Payton Linnehan.
Reign forward Bethany Balcer is set to become the 23rd NWSL player to appear in 100 games with the same club while defender Sofia Huerta, sitting at 31 career assists, can set the regular-season league record in the category with her next assist. Head Coach Laura Harvey is chasing her record-breaking 100th regular season win – she will be the first NWSL coach to reach that historic milestone.
EXPANSION TENSION
Closing out Week 12 of action on CBS Sports Network, Bay FC hosts the Utah Royals at PayPal Park in the first-ever meeting between the two newest expansion teams. Both clubs joined the NWSL this season with the Utah Royals hoping to add a tally to the win column and Bay FC coming off an impressive 2-1 victory over the Chicago Red Stars at the historic Wrigley Field on June 8.
PAGING PAIGE
Houston Dash defender Paige Nielsen will face her former club, Angel City FC, for the second time this season at Shell Energy Stadium. During Week 8, Nielsen recorded the game-winning goal in stoppage time to give the Dash a 1-0 victory at BMO Stadium.
